Research and development: breaking new ground

In addition to our activities in teaching and shoe development, and in synergy with these two areas, research represents another central focus for us. Through our close collaboration with various companies in the footwear and leather industry, the ISC is a place where new ideas are rapidly developed collaboratively and implemented in research projects. In addition to contract research, we are involved in publicly funded national and international research projects.
Our goal is to develop innovative solutions and drive technical advancement in the footwear and leather industry. We support our partners and clients with our expertise and experience to achieve their individual research and development goals.

Contract Research
We assist companies and individuals in the technical elaboration and realization of their development projects. From biomechanical studies to customized developments, we offer our customers individually tailored concepts and approaches. Our contract research often aims at optimizing fit and comfort.

Nonprofit technical research
We actively support medium-sized companies with our technical research and development. This involves feasibility studies for the implementation of innovative concepts and ideas. These projects are financed with the help of public funds and realized in close cooperation with industry. The results obtained are accessible to all interested parties. Our projects are diverse and cover a wide range of topics, from shoe design and development to motion analysis and instrumented rehabilitation systems.
Our own biomechanical laboratory makes a significant contribution to verifying concepts and addressing inquiries. The proximity to our own learning factory allows for the direct processing and implementation of new ideas, concepts, and modification measures within ongoing research projects.

Research for education and training
Education and training set the course for the long-term development of an industry. In close collaboration with international partners, ISC is involved in EU-funded educational projects aimed at continuous improvements in the training and further education of the footwear industry. The goal is to prepare apprentices and employees to the best of their abilities for the changing demands of the profession, thereby shaping the industry's long-term future. Here, we rely on collaboration with the industry to understand its needs and validate the outcomes of our projects.
Our topics include, among others, sustainability, circular economy, digitalization, the return of shoe production to Europe and the introduction of dual training in countries without comparable training structures.
If you are interested in participating in our projects and would like to offer your employees optimal training opportunities in the future, please do not hesitate to contact us by phone or e-mail.
